Boost Boost, so nice I said it twice.

I just cant figure out what is going on with my boost...my 2.8" pulley went from making 16-17psi to making 20psi..so I went back to the stock 3.3" pulley which for everyone else (and for me prior to the engine being rebuilt) was making 8-9psi....now I'm seeing 12-13..what gives? bad boost gauge?

I borrowed a buddies spare boost gauge and decided to record the happenings to review while not driving..here it is.

  1. What ended up being the problem? And how were you getting 16 psi with a 2.8? I'm running a 2.9 and I get 11psi. I'm on stock internals on my 07 though. is it the comp ratio? thank you

    1. the problem ended up being a melted cat, clogged the the exhaust and the gasses couldnt get out.

that is for sure too little booost for that pulley. Are you using the stock belt? If so I'd bet that your belt is slipping because it is too long. I have a post on here I think telling what size belt I used for the 2.8".

    2. No I swapped my belt along with the pulley. flyin miata gave me the part number. Anything else it could be?

    3. Check the boost bypass valve on the back of the SC. the lever on the bottom of the actuator can hit the brake lines that are on the firewall. this could be be blocking your actuator from closing all the way and your boost is leaking.

      Report back please
